Being a nursing student myself, it is very difficult to find success. Whether it be getting into classes that are needed to enter the program, being signed up or prepared for required things, or overall staying on track. Other registered nurses who have completed this program have brought up this issue and it is very apparent to me and others around me. This becomes apparent to me because in one of my sources, Rasmussen college's vice president of nursing Joan Rich explains how she sees this first hand. Furthermore, I plan to establish ways to combat these issues and abolish negative thoughts in regards to finding success in our nursing program. Getting the backing of other students will be vital to bringing light to this issue and will be a top priority for me and my ongoing effort to fix this issue. The most important part to finding a resolve to this issue is getting to the people that need to hear this and will be done via online and personal meetings where information and experience regarding my claims are brought to light in attempt to fix this issue.

McConnell, Edwina. Burnout In the Nursing Profession. Madison, Wisconsin, The C. V. Mosby Company, 1982

“Burnout is best defined as a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion which occurs as the result of working with people over a long period of time in situations that are emotionally demanding. Such emotionally demanding work is the essence of nursing.”

Entry Level Registered Nurse Salary in Indiana - Ziprecruiter.” Zip Recruiter. www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/Entry-Level-Registered-Nurse-Salary--in-Indiana. 24 January, 2024

Summary

The main points being presented on this website is the hourly and yearly wage of nurses in Indiana. "As of Jan 28, 2024, the average hourly pay for an Entry Level Registered Nurse in Indiana is $39.22 an hour."

Assesment

Zip recruiter is a very reliable source when it comes to finding wages for jobs in a given location. The way they figure the given numbers is based of an algorithm that filters multiple variables to give you a close estimate. This source is different however because it isn't an article but a graph that shows you averages. Information can be compressed to your exact location or your state. U can also find a monthly and weekly average for wages.

Reflection

The information i have received from this graph will help shape my argument by giving it a level of importance. The average lower middle class wage is around $20-$25 in Indiana. With the information I've received it states that nurses average almost double normal wages. This level of importance will be used to show why we need to see more success in the nursing program in ball state but also other universities around the world.

Summary

The main points in this article are that there are many nursing shortages around the world and need fixed. "“Fueling the predictions of a shortage in the supply of RNs are a return to a more favorable economic climate that will likely result in RNs leaving the workforce, the significant numbers of RNs who are nearing retirement, the expected increase in healthcare needs associated with the baby-boomer population as well as the needs of the increasing elderly population, factors inherent in patient care that sometimes result in RNs leaving the profession, and the nursing faculty shortage.”

Assesment

From my evaluation, i concluded that this database is a very reliable. This is because the author, who is a dean at the college of health and allied professions at the university at Lafayette in Louisiana. She also has many other books which are published under her name. This matters because becoming a dean at such a high level is very hard to achieve and gives Jacqueline a high status.

Reflection

The information contained within this passage can be used to my benefit because it shows how important nurses are. The author talks how there always is and will be a need for nurses whenever and wherever. I will explain how we need to push for great success in this program because this article shows the importance of nursing.

“Why Some Students Aren’t Succeeding in Nursing School.” ATI Nursing Blog. atinursingblog.com/why-some-students-arent-successful-in-nursing-school/. 24 January 2024

Summary

The main points in the article is to address why students aren't succeeding in the nursing program. Because of this, the author is addressing each issue but then following it up with a solution to fight these issues.

Assesment

It seems to me that the publisher is a very reliable source. “You have to figure this out. You have to map out the next year, two years, three years, four years, whatever you’re invested in and do it well. And some of our students did not do that.” At the end of this quote it states that their students didn't set themselves up for success. this leads me to believe such an institution would provide useful information. Also because of the standard this institution is held at, it lets me know that they will be truthful with their information to keep a good reputation.

Reflection

This information helps me shape my argument by giving focus to the things that nursing students struggle with. Seemingly, these issues aren't too crazy and if addressed could be fixed with the right resources and tools that may or may not be provided. Most of these things are personal issues within the program but I feel that students aren't told these things so they know what not to do. This leads me to think that maybe a class or meetings about setting yourself up for success could be very helpful to students' success.

Summary

After reading this article, i concluded that Gary just gives a proad overview of nusing in general and what its like to be a nurse. One thing that stood out to me however was the topic about gender roles in nursing. Gary stated " “The idea that women had a special moral capacity and compassion, and the right characteristics such as devotion, sensibility, and sacrifice for caring work in a paid capacity, complementary to public roles of men, was a deeply gendered notion, reflecting the gendered beliefs of the time.”

Assesment

I would say that this article is reliable because Gary L. Albrecht is a Fellow of the Royal Belgian Academy of Arts and Sciences. All the information that is fact is also backed up in this article with direct links to the facts an information used. Usually when i see anything written under a professors name or college, i conclude that i can most definitely use this information without worry. This is because this is a high status to achieve and Gary is put to a trustworthy standard.

Reflection

I would briefly use this information in my article and talk about how it is also important to drive for success with men who want to be nurses. Because of the shortened numbers in male nurses, i feel as if educators and colleges would want these students to succeed and find their way of success. to do this they could provide many resources need to balance out this gender issue in nursing.

Summary

This article talks about how nursing started, what types of education you can get, and many more various things about nursing such as the changes that have happened to nursing. It also talks about how one person can get an education in nursing. "“Nursing and nursing education have undergone striking changes over the centuries. This history reveals a constant struggle for autonomy and professionalism.”

Assesment

I would say that this article seems to be reliable source in regards to nursing education. Rene Jackson, who is a registered nurse, wrote this article out of experience but also from information she found from other websites which are provided in her works. Becoming a nurse is a hard thing to do and her achieved status gives her reliability and credibility.

Reflection

After reading and considering, i would use the information in this topic to talk about how things were and maybe how things should still be in regards to education now. Maybe some things that were working back then that they took away should be implemented back into our colleges and universities or vise verse. One example is that back then, colleges were smaller and it was easier for students to connect with other students and teachers. This makes it easier for students to stay up to date with what's going on. Implementing a way to do that in todays universities could help students immensely.
