Things that help define the Jeffersonian era

The Louisiana Purchase(General Knowledge)

Gigantic step for expanding the U.S.

The land gets passed from France to Spain bought back by France then bought by Jefferson for the U.S.

Not everyone was happy with the purchase because of their beliefs on France

People were also worried about the Purchase being constitutional

Chesapeake Leopard Affair(National Park Service)

Jerkin Ratford and his crew stole a boat

They ran into a British Vessle and when they were asked to be searched

Ratford refused and after injuring and killing passnagers they took their bodies and Ratfords as well

Not really being able to do anything about the situation at that time, Jefferson pushed for new economic pressure with England

The embargo act(Britannica)

France and England were fighting and Napoleon prohibited British trade

Napoleon brought the U.S into this case by using American vessels in French ports, after England put a blockade on Napoleonic Europe

This violated international law leading Thomas Jefferson to get involved and create The Embargo Act

Embargo Act- Closed all U.S. ports and restricted imports from England

It effected American Farmers and merchants negativley but gave French and British dealers a chance to raise their prices

The Election of 1800(Helperin)

Jefferson and Adams were running against eachother

Jefferson- Democratic Republican

Adams- Federalist

Tied with Aaron Burr, was counting on the House of Reps to help him win

Ended up having 10 states vote for him

HE WON!!!!!!
