What is feminism?

Wave 1-1800s-early 1900s

This wave included the Suffrage Movement and Women's right to vote.

Wave 2-1960s-1980s

This wave was focused on women's reproductive rights, equal pay and consciousness raising.

Wave 4-2012-present

This wave was marked by online and digital engagement. Marked by intersectionality. This time was trans inclusive, body positive and radical critique of the status quo.

The article #MeToo isn't enough, now women need to get ugly was published during this wave of feminism. There was a quote in there that read 'Don't say that to me, don't do that to me. I hate it.' That is what a mom had to tell her daughter to say to a boy while she's only in fifth grade. She is that young, and having to be told how to stand up for herself as a woman.

In the article You See Oppression Through a Gender Lens highlighted how women need to be silent, perfect and nice. When they are all of these things they are treated fairly. This article also talked about how the primary oppressor is man. Oppression also is not just based on gender, but also the color of one's skin. This was a very powerful statement.

Wave 3-1990s-nowish

This wave focused on workplace sexual harassment and increased the women in power. (there was not a fully central goal.)
