Rhyme Scheme

Alliteration

Alliteration occurs when a consonant sound is repeatedly used at the beginning of words very close to one another.

Example: Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

Metaphor

Metaphors are comparisons that show how two things that are not alike in most ways are similar in one important way. Metaphors are a way to describe something

Metaphors state that something is something else

Example: Adrain was a wall, bouncing every tennis ball back over the net.This metaphor compares Adrain to a wall because he kept returning the balls

Simile

A simile is the comparison of two unlike things using the word 'like' or 'as'

Example: As happy as a lark

Onomatopoeia

Sounds made by people or object being spelt out

Examples: Thump, Sizzle, Tinkling, Gobble, Gulp, Munch, Slurp etc.

Example: Hear the tolling of the bells!

Personification

The poet would give objects or other creatures human qualities such as speech, feelings, actions and appearance
