Climate Change - Mind Map

Climate Change

Impact and Evidence of Climate Change

Melting of Polar Ice Sheets

Over the year as greenhouse gas emissions have risen the earths temperature. This as caused for the glaciers and ice sheets to start to melt. This causes a rise in sea level. . Icebergs are chunks of glacial ice that break off glaciers and fall into the ocean. When glaciers melt, because that water is stored on land, the runoff significantly increases the amount of water in the ocean

Extreme Weather

Cause of climate change and increase in temperature the world has seen a increase and strength in extreme weather. More wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, extreme heat, droughts and blizzards. Not only is there increase in this weather but a increase in strength as rising temperatures brings stronger wind and ocean currents and these types of weather have been causing a lot of environmental and property damage

Acid Rain

Exhaust fumes from the burning of fossil
fuels like gas, coal & natural gas. this releases SO2 & N0x
creating sulfuric acid.
Sulphur dioxide + water 🡪 Sulphuric Acid
SO2 + H2O 🡪 H2SO4
Acid rain looks, feels, and tastes just like clean rain. The harm to people from acid rain is not direct. Walking in acid rain, or even swimming in an acid lake, is no more dangerous than walking or swimming in clean water. However, the pollutants that cause acid rain—sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx)—do damage
human health.

Ozone Depilation

The ozone molecules in the atmosphere have been protecting earths from ultraviolet rays for over a billion years. The ozone layer is located in the stratosphere. It mostly helps to reduces UV-B rays greatly from reaching the ground. For human exposure to large amounts UV-B rays can damage skin and cause skin cancer and a suppressed immune system. Also can be harmful to plants, single cell organelles and aquatic ecosystems. The reason for the depletion of the ozone was because of over 60 years of continues use of chlorofluorocarbons (cfc) which cause the depletion of the ozone. In 1974 they stopped the making of the gas and the healing of the ozone began

Human Health

The environment

Climate change has been damaging environment and many parts such as soils, biodiversity, marine life and inland water life. Climate change has destroyed habitat and changed many different habitats which animals cannot adapt to as quick. e.g. polar ice sheets and polar bears. Polar bears are not being able to get food as ice sheets do not stretch out as long and last long enough in winters .

Human Causes of Climate Change

Burning Fossil Fuels

Burning coal, oil and gas produces carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. Burning fossils fuels is the largest cause of carbon dioxide. This is the largest green house emissions and one of the main factors of climate change.

Agriculture

Crops Farming: The concerning part of modern day farming is the amount of chemicals being sprayed on is at a larger and concerning rate. Pesticides, fertilizers and other chemicals are being sprayed on crops for there to be more produced and less damaged by insects and animals. Moreover those they are transported via wind and water and affect the surrounding ecosystems.

Livestock Farming: This farming practices produce large amount of methane. Methane is released from cows, chickens, pigs and much more when they fart and burp. Other amounts of methane comes from animal waste. Both types of agriculture cause deforestation, biodiversity loss, accelerated soil erosion, loss of soil organic matter, salinization of soils, costal water pollution and acidification of the oceans

Transporataion

The impact of transport is very strong because uses a large amount of energy, and burns most of the world's petroleum. This creates air pollution, including nitrous oxides and particulates, and is a significant contributor to global warming through large emission of carbon dioxide.

Deforestaion

When trees are cut down burned or are left in places to rotten they release all carbon which had been stored inside of the tree. Trees help to capture carbon dioxide by using the process of photosynthesis. Deforestation is the second leading cause in green houses released. Not only is c02 released but furthermore less c02 is captured after the cutting of trees. Deforestation has caused for loss of species and destruction of Habitat. The number one factor in deforestation is agriculture. e.g. the Amazon rainforest absorbs 2 billion tons of CO2 per year and the fires and deforestation has been reducing the number of trees.
