NATURAL TRANSFORMATION
IN GRAM NEGATIVE BACTERIA

DEFINITION:
the bacteria adaption for DNA transfer
thats depends on the expression of numerous
bacterial genes which results will carry out this process.

Haemophilus Influenza :
the first gram negative bacterium in
which natural competence was found. It's
facultatively anaerobic bacterium that can cause severe infection.

MECHANISM (Neisseria Gonorrhea)

STEP 1: Transfer DNA from
surface to the cytoplasmic membrance.

STEP 2: DNA translocation across
cytoplasmic membrance is highly
conserved. -ComA in Neisseria Gonorrhoeae
is mediated by homologuse.
ComE act as DNA binding proteins feeding ComA
channel. -PriA may pull ssDNA into cytoplasm on the expense of ATP, incoming ssDNA is protected by binding proteins.

STEP 3: The pillus assembled
by a complex which comprises
at least the ATPase PiLF ,the integral
membrance protein PiLG and a
peptidase for pilin processing.

STEP 4: Species-specific adaptation
for transfer DNA to cytoplasmic membrance.
