Nine Elements of Digital Citizenship
1. Digital Access
- Users must be aware that not everyone has access to technology
- Working and promoting to achieve digital rights is the first step of Digital Citizenship
- Digital exclusion makes it difficult to grow as a society
- Expanding and growing access to technology should be the goal of every Digital Citizen

2. Digital Commerce
- A large portion of today's market is run electronically
- As there are legal transactions on the online market, there are also illegal activities that go against the laws of some countries

3. Digital Communication
- An important factor in technology that allows people to communicate with others
- Possible ways of communicating with others using technology has grown significantly over the years
- People now have the opportunity to use technology to talk and work with others anywhere and anytime in the world
4. Digital Literacy
- Schools have certainly made an effort in digitalizing and using technology more often in classes
- Certain jobs now also involve the use of certain technology (Videoconferencing and online sharing of info.)
- Being able to learn and use technology is essential to being a Digital Citizen

5. Digital Etiquette
- One of the most pressing issues regarding Digital Citizenship
- When one does not learn Digital Etiquette, they do not learn appropriate conduct
- Rules and regulation are often created to stop improper use of technology
6. Digital Law
- Deals with ethics with using technology within a society
- Unethical action relates to theft and crime and ethical use is abiding to laws of society
- Certain rules have to be followed in an ethical society, this applies to anyone who work or play online

7. Digital Rights & Responsibilities
- A basic set of rights set to every digital citizen
- Rights to things such as free speech and privacy. Rights come with responsibilities
- Technology is to be used in appropriate manner
8. Digital Health & Wellness
- Users must be aware of physical and mental health issues that are associated with technology
- Eye safety, repetitive stress syndrome and even physiological issues such as internet addiction
- Users must be taught to help avoid these problems associated with tech
9. Digital Security
- In any society, there are people who do not have good intentions with technology. People steal, deface and disrupt others
- Digital citizens must have some level of protection against those with bad intentions
- One must have virus protection, passwords, back-up's and etc. As a digital citizen, we must protect ourselves from outside sources
