What are the Fixed and Growth Mindsets?

G.M.

The growth mindset is viewing challenges and failures as opportunities to better yourself and to improve.

The GM is the belief that abilities can be changed and fixed with lots of practice and hard work.

Failure is a great thing in life. Failure shows what type of character and mindset you have. When you fail are you going to fold and quit, or are you going to do what the growth mindset does which is try to understand why you failed an build off of it.

The growth mindset is all about making changes. It believes that nobody is born better than another person. They may be more talented at something because your born with talent. But skill is built by countless hours of preparation towards what you are trying to strengthen.

Also the growth mindset takes in constructive criticism from others, and is willing to change. Without change success is not possible.

F.M.

A fixed mindset is having ideas carved into stone, and thinking that there is no way to change your abilities.

The FM is the belief that abilities can not be changed no matter how much extra work is put in.

Failure is looked at as a bad thing. But really you need to fail in life to be able to succed. How will you ever learn from your mistakes to get better. Nobody is perfect, you are going to fail.

There ideas are carved ins tone, they think your either born with the talent or your not . But in reality you can study to get smarter, or practice to get better at anything, sports, reading, writing. practice makes perfect.

Failing is looked at as awful, changes will not be made in a mindset if you fail. but when you fail this is when you know you need to change something or your going to keep on failing.

How do people with each Mindset experience the relation between failure and self-esteem?

People with the fixed mindset don't respond well when they fail and due to this, there self esteem drops significantly. Because they are programmed to believe that their abilities show their worth

"When the fixed mindset fails, the self-esteem is low". The fixed mindset hates failures. When they fail they view themselves as failures. This is because they want to pass and suceed all the time, but that's not the case in life.

"Having passed one rigorous test after another, they think of themselves as special." Just because you passed a pointless test over and over again doesn't make you special. Matter of fact if you fail more than you succeed in life this is better because it teaches you how to better yourself, and put in work.

"At the tender age of three he was a failure. From an action (I failed) to and identity (I am a failure). How is someone a failure at 3. Your only a failure if you fail and not try to fix the problem, and or better yourself as a person that's what makes you a failure.

When someone with the Growth mindset fails, their self esteem doesn't necessarily change - because they believe their abilities/qualites/talents can be developed. is very high because they like to make changes and grow as a person.

" Slow and steady wins the race". This means that don't try to be the first one done with everything that doesn't mean anything. take your time and do your best, and then you will suceed.

"Growth mindsets thrive off of failures, their self-esteem is through the roof." When the growth minded people go through failures, they know they need to fix something which builds there self-esteem.

"Students with the growth mindset had taken our word that the test measured an important ability, but they didn't think it measured how smart they were". Know test can measure how smart you are. People have good and bad days, just show up everyday with the same mindset and you will be fine.

How do fixed and growth mindsets influence one's motivation to learn?

The fixed mindset is only motivated to learn when they are succeeding all the time. They don't like to fail.

"Fixed mindset students have motivation to learn when there are no failures involved into the equation, they love the smooth ride." back to the question , fixed mindset students only like to learn or feel motivated to learn when there's no bumps in the road.

"One test or cultivation can measure you forever." If they fail one big test in there life, it can ruin them forever and they will feel like a failure for the rest of there lives.

" Loretta was put into the dumber class in kindergarten and was stuck with them through high school, but she got many academic prizes but still didnt feel like she belonged." No matter how well she did, she still felt like she wasn't smart because she was put into a lower program in kindergarten.

The growth mindset is motivated to learn when they fail, because they like to make changes and learn off of there mistakes.

" Motivation to learn when put in hard challenging spaces". When your put into a new enviroment, will you hide in your shell, or get out of your comfort zone and try to learn.

"People with the growth mindset knows it takes time for potential to flower." Everyone has potential to do great things, but it doesn't just happen. You need to put in the work and time, and wait when the time is right until you reach your fullest.

"People with the growth mindset knows it takes time for potential to flowe

" Growth mindset students like to learn off and build off of mistakes they encounter". This is so true and this is how you grow to your highest potential when you make mistakes figure out where you went wrong, and fix it so that same mistake doesn't keep happening.
