Helping someone eat who has dementia is very
important. You can help support the person by
prepping their meals, and making sure that they
are healthy, and also by making sure that they
are drinking enough fluids.

Be friendly and patient

Being friendly and patient with the person who
has dementia goes a long way. Even though they
may not exactly remember everything with your
encounter, they will remember how you made them feel.
Taking time to sit down and listen to the person helps
support them in many ways. They feel more safe, and
they can open up to you more easily.

Using the washroom

Another way to help support someone with
dementia is by helping them use the washroom. It is common for people with dementia to forget how to use the washroom.
You can help them by hanging up signs on the walls with steps, and you can also keep the bathroom light on in the washroom at night for them.

Everyday Tasks

Depending on how severe the individuals dementia is
they may not be able to go out and run errands. You can
help support them by going to the stores and getting
the objects that they need. Such as grocery's, toilet paper
toothbrush and many more

Indepence and autonomy

Lots of people with dementia feel as
though they have lost independence.
You can help support them by helping to
maintain their independence. You can do this by
encouraging physical activity, focusing on the things
that they can do rather than things that they might
not be able to do, and by making things around them
more accessible so that they feel they can do more
for themselves. It is also important to take into consideration
how sever their dementia is.
