Flapper 1920s

Radios were something that was very popular and used during the 1920s because it was very popular and used a lot. It was in high demand and was a huge product on the market. People would stand in lines for hours waiting to have their radio, later after that, there were a lot of radio stations that were overlapping. The radio would broadcast music, news, market update etc. I chose the radio for this time capsule because it was used a lot since there wasn’t anything more fun to do and it keeps us informed about the world by keeping us showing us the news. These days it is more significant for people to use their phones to listen to music and even news on social media such as using Spotify for music.

The washing machine was used to wash clothes by using a lever to start the machine. This made it easier for women and children because they could let the machine do the work instead of them doing it by hand and or washboard. Alva. Fisher invented the first electric washing machine in the 20s. Before the invention of the electric washing machine, people would be pounding their clothes or rocks and washing the dirt away. I chose a washing machine because now they are more advanced and it helps us to save energy and time. We let the washing machine do all the work for us. This allows us to do other things while the washing machine is doing its work.

This artifact provided by “car” represents the technological development of cars since the 1920s. Before cars were invented, people travelled on horses and were limited in their distance and dependency. But during the 1920s the model T car was introduced by Henry Ford and was cheap so people would be able to afford it. It was about $360 and this made it easier for people to travel to distant places. I chose this artifact for this time capsule because it helped people a lot in the 1920s since now they can travel long distance and be able to travel easily with a car, after there was a lot of people who have cars it simulated other car industries, such as highways, construction and gas station. I chose it because cars are now the most significant and used for everything such as going to work even working like uber etc.

The flapper is a young woman who defied the rules and had fewer rights before the 20s and was conformed to very strict rules but during the 20s everything changed. She worked and earned her own money. The flapper is a woman who was highly sexualized and talks openly about sex and has many sexual partners. She smoked and drank in public, she also talked in slang and performed jazz shows. A flapper wears short skirts and slim dresses, wears tight clothes and wears lots of makeup and has short bobbed hair. A flapper cares about working against social norms for acceptance and freedom. A flapper played sports such as golf, roller skating. A flapper acts free and lives a free life.
