How do bees build their honeycombs?
1. When bees are 10 days old, the female bee develops a wax-producing gland inside her abdomen.
2. After this bees are fully-developed, they forage for food and gather nectar from different flowering plants.
3. The nectar is transferred into another worker tongue, were the liquid nectar evaporates and becomes honey.
4. The glands of the worker bees then turn sugar contents of honey into wax.
Quick Facts: Honeybees can ad up to 3 pounds of honeycomb into the hive.
Quick Fact #2: The process of building a honeycomb can take from 7 days to 2 months.
6. The bees chew these pieces of wax until it becomes soft and moldable for piling and constructing the hexagonal cell for the honeycomb.
5. Then the bees on their pores produce tiny flakes of wax on their abdomens.
