Oil vs Water - Mind Map

Oil vs Water

Water

Characteristics

Unlike oil water is odorless and has no taste

Water is a more popular solvent, meaning, it can dissolves solutes like sugar and salt

Water has a higher density than oil because its particles are closer together because water molecules are more attracted to each other. They also have smaller particles than oil's.

when people think of liquids water is the first thing that usually comes to mind.

Similarities

Although oil and water have many differences they also have some similarities. After all both oil and water are fluids and they would have to have something in common to classify them as the same thing.

Flowing

Both oil and water can flow.

Just like any other fluid both liquids can also not be compressed.

Oil

Characteristics

Water may have a higher density but oil's viscosity is larger than water. Viscosity is the resistance of a fluid to flow and it is also there thickness and thinness, since water flows easier and is less thick oil has a higher viscosity than water.

Densities

when a substance has the same density as a fluids it hovers in place.

when a substance has a higher density the substance will then sink.

but if a substance has a lower density than the fluid the substance will float. This is why oil floats on top of the water because it has a lower density.

There two different densities make it so that the fluids can never mix together, no matter how hard they try. This is because two liquids have to have the same densities in order to mix.

Crude oil is very toxic when ingested inside of animals. Oil can cause pollution and harm the environment oppose to water which helps the environment.
