The Battle of Hastings
When?
The Battle of Hastings occurred
on the 14th of October 1066.
What?
Duke William landed at England
weeks before the battle. The reason for this is that King Harold had to march his army all the way down from the North of England after fighting King Harold Hardrada. When Harold finally arrived William was waiting for him. They fought and fought and eventually William's army killed King Harold which granted Duke William of Normandy the throne.
How?
There was a number of reasons why
King Harold's army lost. The reasons were as follows. King Harold's army were tired after the long march from the North of england. Harold was impatient and didn't give them time to rest. Harold's army were too spread out while fighting, and the main reason was that Duke William of Normandy faked his death making his army retreat. Harold's army therefore broke formation and charged down to William's army. William then revealed that he wasn't dead and so William's army turned around and cut down Harold's army while they were not tightly in formation.
