The Progression of Systematic Oppression

1864: Slavery is abolished, but the amendment provides a "loop-hole" where it allows African-Americans to be enslaved 'as a punishment for crime.'

During the Jones vs America case, the Jones family sued an American realtor company, who prevented them from selling their house. The case was presented in the Supreme Court of Justice and the court had come to a ruling in their favour, as they had stated that the couple were being racially discriminated.

Black Codes are introduced, which are laws passed in the Southern United States, which restricted the freedom of African-Americans, and forced them to work for low-wage and labour forces.

Separate but equal was a legal principle of the government, which guaranteed equal protection for all people. This was the beginning of a segregated America, as whites and blacks were provided the same services, but separately.

Jim Crow laws were passed in America with the intent to racial segregate African-Americans among the white-majority American society. The laws mandated racial segregation in every public facility in America.

In today's society, African-Americans face racial segregation in the workplace, as many struggle to elevate their positions in their respective companies, if they are employed at all. Numerous African-Americans are not even given the opportunity to be employed as many of them are rejected at first due to their colour of skin.
