BIG DATA

The characteristics are

Velocity of Big Data

r

Speed with which data is genarated. High velocitydata is generated with such a pace that it requires distinct (distributed)processing techniques. An example of a data that is generated with highvelocity would be Twitter messages or Facebook posts.

Variety of Big Data

r

Big Data comes from a great varietyof sources and generally is one out of three types: structured, semi structuredand unstructured data. An example of high varietydata sets would be the CCTV audio and video files that are generated atvarious locations in a city.

Veracity of Big Data

r

Quality of the data that is being analyzed. Highveracity data has many records that are valuable to analyze and that contributein a meaningful way to the overall results. An example of a high veracity data setwould be data from a medical experiment or trial.

Volume of Big Data

r

Size of the data sets that need to beanalyzed and processed, which are now frequently larger than terabytes andpetabytes. An example of a high-volume dataset would be all credit card transactions on a day within Europe.
