Character Analysis Mind Map-Gilgamesh and Beowulf

Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh is a terrible, egotistical
psychomaniac who thinks that he can take
whatever he wants whenever he pleases
and can do anything he wants to anyone he
pleases. He is a terrible, terrible man that
has been made king but fails at being a
successful one. He is tall, brawny, and
somewhat charming, but overall is still a
terrible person. Gilgamesh is NOT a hero.

Ridiculous
Perverted
Egotistical
Forceful

"Gilgamesh would leave no son to his
father, Day and night he would rampage
fiercely. Gilgamesh would leave no girl
to her mother!"
(Gilgamesh, line 60-61;65, p 101)

Gilgamesh's conflict is all internal. He has to
battle his own mind to conquer what he wishes---
death.

Gilgamesh is a hard, static character.
He does not ever change throughout the story,
and stays the same egotistical maniac throughout
the entire story. The only thing that happens to
him that would be considered a change in personality
is that he mourns Enkidu's death instead of blowing
aside and continuing on his journey. Enkidu changed his
heart a little, but not very much. He still continues on
after Enkidu finally dies, but does it somewhat sadly.

Beowulf

Beowulf is a brave, courageous character who
fights off many enemies using his amazing
strength and brilliant mind. He is a tall,
brown-headed man whose muscles are as
big as Gilgamesh's ego. Beowulf is clearly
the hero out of the two characters.

Brave
Strong
Heroic
Noble

"I am mistaken, he is truly noble."
(Beowulf, line 249, p 118)

Beowulf's conflict is all external. He has to
physically fight things.

Beowulf is a round, dynamic character.
He changes throughout the story. He begins the
story being somewhat cocky, and wanting
people to know that he is a HERO and nothing more.
However, the more that he does for people and the
rewards he receives, it changes him and instead
of being cocky and ignorant he acknowledges the
people that enjoy what he does for them, and he
thanks them instead of how he would have
blown them off.
