Structure of the Atmosphere

r

The atmosphere of the Earth is made up of 78 percent nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% other gases. These gases are found in layers (troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere).

https://www.canada.ca/en/services/environment/weather/climatechange/climate-plan/net-zero-emissions-2050.htmlCanada's Plan to Reach Net ZeroI've read this through about 4 - 5 times, and on paper it sounds like an amazing idea, let's ALL cut down our greenhouse gas emissions as a whole; instead of a handful of cities trying to reach "net zero", let's all participate. Their plan is to either emit no greenhouse gases whatsoever (good luck with that), or offset the emissions by doing things such as planting trees or using technology to suck out the greenhouse gasses straight out of the sky like magic. Personally I think the motive and cause is great, we need to cut down all of our bullshit that we emit each day, but dude, you're not gonna get everyone to abide. The amount of smoke, steam, and waste produced by these major companies is a lot to offset. Have you driven by those big towers that look like big cloud makers, and all of those semi trucks and busses? yes you have because they are everywhere. Those things are running everyday. All day everyday emitting a shitload of toxic smoke and steam. You're telling me that you're gonna offset that? in every Canadian city? sounds very unlikely. Although it does sounds unlikely, we have to at least try. I understand I sound pessimistic but can you blame me? Everything at this point just feels like it's a melting shit pot that's gonna explode at any moment. It seems that the only thing the world is revolving around in 2022, can be boiled down to COVID, world war, climate change, and money problems. This is my opinion on "Net zero emissions", good idea, but unrealistic. Unrealistic because the way governments have been handling this crisis since it has been brought to them by the world's scientists. Y'all are late to the boat. You were too busy trying to kill each other over money, weapons of mass destruction, oil and drugs. Observing the world around me is like watching playground fights but with armies. Sorry for the language, this type of thing makes me frustrated.

Write a letter to governmetn

r

Dear Canadian Government,My name is Lucassie Etitiq and I am currently in grade 10 at Cairine Wilson Secondary School.  I was told to write a letter to the Canadian government concerning the climate change pandemic for my science class.  I call it a pandemic because I feel that the earth is in a critical condition due to all of the pollution and greenhouse gasses.  I was told to write to you reminding you of the media you have produced, promising a cut down in emissions by 40 - 45% when all you have really done is raise the price of gas and stick with the same self-destructive habits.  I feel we live in a very backwards world nowadays, and all of North America is a big contributor to this backwards way of life.  I don’t have the answers, and you guys sure don’t.  Thank you for taking the time to read my letter that will never be taken seriously or considered even in the slightestCheers, Lucassie

Green Party

r

https://www.greenparty.ca/en/platform/green-futureI hate politics. For a lot of reasons: corruption, blind hatred, greed, control of thought, and it just so happens to be hereditary. The Green Party motive I agree with. Everyone talks about global warming and how drastic of a change we need, which is true. However, I personally don't like how they hijacked this very easily agreeable cause to staple to their whole political motive. Obviously they can't only focus on renewable energy, global warming, greenhouse gases, agriculture, "circular economy", although those problems do need major attention, there are also other problems to deal with. Another reason I hate politics is because no matter what, everyone is shitting on each other.

My evaluation of solutions

r

Include an evaluation of the solutions to climate change. Write a short reflection stating your opinion about the solutions: Which do you think will be the most effective? What are some of the pros and cons of them? Government (including United Nations), Citizens (including NGOs) and Industry has a responsibility to address these issues- who do you think is doing enough (if anyone) and /or who do you think is not pulling their weight in addressing these issues? We're all screwing it up. Not much else too say to this other than this is a global issue and none of us are handling it with the intense attention it requires to de-escalate.

Factors Affecting Climate

Latitude

r

As you travel further from the equator the sun's rays are more spread out at the poles, so less concentrated sun's energy makes it colder at the poles.

Ocean Currents

r

Warm Ocean Currents carry warm air and affect coastal areas, Cold Ocean Currents carry cold air and affect coastal areas.

Winds- Prevailing Winds

r

Prevailing Winds bring cold air from Arctic Regions or Warm Air from Tropical

Relief

r

The presences or absence of mountain ranges can block air masses or not.

Elevation

r

The higher in altitude you go the colder it is

Near Water

r

Large bodies of water moderate the climate of an area.

Human Generated GHGs

r

Humans are adding GHGs to the atmosphere, trapping more heat energy near the surface. No shit. We're kinda the whole problem here if you haven't figured that out yet.
