matter and measurement

Physical change and properties

A change in matter that does not involve a change in the chemical composition of a substance. Any change of state in a gas solid or liquid is known as a physical change. some examples include: boiling a pot of water, dissolving sugar in water, breaking glass and chopping wood. there is many more examples of physical changes.

matter is defined as anything that has mass and occupies space. There is 3 states of matter: Solid, Liquid and Gas

Characteristics of the three states of matter. Solid matter is composed of tightly packed particles, the particles are not free to move around. Liquid matter is made up of loosely packed particles. It takes shape of its container and particles can move around in the liquid. Gas matter is composed of particles packed super loosely that it has no defined shape or volume.

Chemical change and properties

Involves changes in matter that alter the chemical composition of a substance some examples include: burning wood, souring milk, digesting food, cooking an egg and rusting of iron.
