A network is the union of two or more computers so that they are able to share
resources, files, directories, disks, programs, printers ...
To create the network, hardware is needed that unites the devices (cards,
cables) and software that implements the rules of communication between
them (protocols and services).

Send data
A switch receives data from a port, uses packet switching to resolve the destination device and then forwards the data to the particular destination, rather than broadcasting it as a hub.
A hub is a multiport repeater having several input/output ports, so that input at any port is available at every other port
A router is a connecting device that transfers data packets between different computer networks
A repeater recives a signal and regenerates it before re-transmitting so that can travel longer distances
Multipoint
Line of communications shared by all teams
Diffusion
transmit data trough a single channel
Point to point
Multitude connections between pairs of teams
Size
Wan
wide network that serve multiple users
Vpn
private connection
Man
Small network
Lan
Large network
Funtionality
Client server network
Runs and acess the data
stored in the server
pear to pear network
Facilities the flow of information
from one peer to another without a server
Media Connection
Fiber optic cable
Pulses of data are sent
Twisted Pair Cable
It is for connecting 2
computers at the same one
Guided media Wired
Twisted pair cable
Coaxial cable
Fiber optics
Unguided media
Radio network
infrared network
Microware net
Ownership
Private network
Owned by a single group of people
Public network
Is public owned
Topology
It can cover larger distances
Used to create small local area networks
Mesh network topology
every node is connected
Tree topology
Large organizations with numerous networks
Ring Network topology
It can cover large distnces
Star network topology
If there is a shtdown the devices wont be affected
Common bus Topology
They are inexpensive
you can connect only one cable

Funtionality
Every network includes:
At least two computers Server or Client workstation
Networking interface Cards (NIC)
A connection medium, usually a wire or cable although
wireless communication between networked computers and peripherals is also possible
Network Opeating system software (NOS), such as microsoft window , Novell NetWare, Unix and Linux
