Genuineity brings trust
The Holy Ghost directs how to teach
2+2=4
Education is an individual experience
No one is too old to learn
Learning is self-driven
Knowledge that we receive will be with us in the eternities
The teacher must have understanding
We learn by teaching

Who do I want to teach?
I like the idea of teaching high schoolers, because I think that I can relate to them better. Also, I could be a source of influence during the great junction of life: the teen years.
Realism:
The universe exists whether or not the mind perceives it. The world of things is superior to the world of ideas.
From a religious perspective, God exists and we will all be judged whether everyone believes that or not.
By identifying the current issues and potential problems, they can properly dealt with.
The Physical world of things holds more power than the world of ideas.
Keeps the big picture in mind.

Funding for Education
What helps Students learn?
Don't put them in positions where they compare themselves to each other.
No public announcing of scores.
Tools for turning in assignments
Deadlines
If things aren't turned in by this date
it is not excepted.
Due Dates
A flexible day that things are expected to be turned in
Windows
A timeframe to turn in assignments
Volunteer Vs Assignment
Assign
Can be neccessary to
get to know students better
Can establish a percieved pattern of learning.
It is easier to volunteer if there is a selection of assignments to choose from.
Can be used as training for Real World application, when jobs have absolute due dates/dead lines with heavier consequences.
Volunteer
Can trust students to volunteer
once I know them better.
If I lead by example, perhaps it can encourage students to volunteer
People will likely volunteer if they trust you and feel that their input is valued.
Is volunteering necessary?
You nee to know your needs in order to volunteer/ask for volunteer.
Sometimes there is a need to not ask someone to volunteer
Some people are so willing to volunteer that you need to limit how much you ask of them.
When students know what they are doing, they are more able to volunteer.
It is sometimes good to wait and let students volunteer their thoughts.
waiting both allows students to learn, teach, and see that you care about their growing knowledge.
Parable
Both teachers and students can be responsible.
Teachers sometimes offer only sticks.
Students can reject trees, or only know how to work with sticks.
Trees and sticks are made of the same material. How you treat it determines if it lives or dies.
Do we turn a teacher's tree into wood?
Dead Learning
Sticks that light a fire. Eventually fire burns out.
Can be complacent: content with how things are currently.
Teachers can quickly 'burn out'.
We can identify with both.
Living Learning
A tree that is consistently nurtured, which grows.
Wants to apply knowledge to the world around them.
Seeds that need nurturing.
U.S. Education System is Decentralized
Teachers are often seen as those who move society forward

Middle school and Junior high has different philosophies
What would be a learning model based off of the way children learn best?
Crash Course Philosophy
A lot of the worlds discoveries were brought about by philosophical questions.
If our decisions are based off of your surroundings/chemicals in your brains, then how can you be accountable for your actions?
There are other factors that science cannot measure that creates variables.
Do humans know how to measure everything in their bodies? No.
The same questions have plagued geniuses for ever.
Philosphy changes the way you view the world
Universal Design for Learning
Some people are very particular about their learning environment.
Items in schools are designed for the most universal characteristics.
When a school is designed, the physical design contributes to the learning experience
Chairs are designed to give the most people some degree of comfort
Axiology: How you value something
How many examples do I do?
As many as it takes to make them sick of it
As many as it takes to understand
Should Fine Art classes use the Traditional Grading System? Why or Why not?
Grades do not give sufficient feedback for improvement. However, with traditional grading, typically a piece that needs lots of critique would fail, which would unnecessarily punish the student artist.
A traditional grading system can discourage creativity and risk taking, which are qualities that benefit those in the fine arts.
If student's aren't afraid of a letter grade, then there is more freedom to grow without fear of failure from a mistake.
When a Pass/Fail system is used, there needs to be a criteria used to evaluate what is accomplished, which is established by the students and teacher.

Dewey and James
often gets confused with realism
Often cuts the fluff and get to what's important for change.
Philosophy needed to to be applied to solving human problems. Success judged by the consequences of actions.
Existentialism
Be 'awake' to what is going on around you.
Tends to be exploratory.
The same things can be both give you meaning and be meaningless.
Existence precedes essence.
you define your own purpose.
Don't think God created with any purpose in mind.
Or:
God had his reasons, but He doesn't push his purpose on the existence of others?
Neo Thomism
Perenialism
Teaching things that have lasted throughout the ages.
What is accepted as perennialist is dependent on the current times and known truths.
AKA Evergreen philosophy, because it pretty much doesn't change.
Is it Students or Teachers that are responsible for successful learning?
Teacher Responsibilities
Student Responsibilities
Asian countries put more responsibilities on the student for learning.
Teachers are becoming disillusioned with schools and the teacher retention rate is dropping. Teachers are saying that they were not sufficiently prepared for their jobs.
Conversely, perhaps we just have people who don't know how to problem solve.
At the end of the Day, none of the philosophies are perfect, because they are created by man.
Scholastic Education is driven by meeting objectives.
