Etymology (noun)the study of the origin of words and the way in which their meanings have changed throughout history.Origin - late Middle English: from Old French ethimologie, via Latin from Greek etumologia, from etumologos ‘student of etymology’, from etumon, neuter singular of etumos ‘true’.Researching the etymology of words can be a fascinating and revealing exercise as within words is embedded particular imaginaries that illuminate the life worlds of cultural values that we can compare, contrast, and trace with out own. For this exercise, do a deep dive researching the etymology of the word. Here are some potential paths of investigation:What is the path it took to its get to its present contemporary meaning in English? What has been lost, hidden, or misunderstood?Have people written about the word and its ambiguities of definition and meaning?Translate the term into another language you speak and compare the etymology paths? What is interesting when you compare across languages? What are the etymological paths of popular synonyms (a word or phrase that has a similar meaning) or antonyms (a word opposite in meaning to another)? Anything interesting when comparing?Use the MindMap and all its' tools to capture the stories embedded in the word. The MindMap might be used by multiple people so don't erase each other's work... you might want to copy the map, do your rough work, then copy back over to the shared page OR go to a far edge of the map and work there.Check out the example I am working on for 'Reality'
