As a nation, Singapore has supported local farms during a flood that occurred in Malaysia during March 2023, where on March 5, the Minister of Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu, publicly addressed the issue to Singaporeans, and urged them to buy local produce as vegetables prices in Malaysia could rise amids the flood. However, the prices for land within Singapore is pretty high and unaffordable for farmers in Singapore, leading to the prices for local products to be higher, and thus lesser people wanting to buy local products.

Those who choose locally produced vegetables, they feel that it is fresher compared with those imported ones. Home-grown vegetables are also nutritious, pesticide-free and eco-friendly. They wouldn't mind that the locally produced vegetables is expensive, they feel that it is more important that the vegetables are more fresher and can also be kept longer.

Many shoppers prefer to purchase imported vegetables to locally produced vegetables due to the prices they are being sold at in the market, even though the vegetables that are locally produced contain more nutrients than those that are imported from overseas, which in turn leads to them being costly.
