Playstation
Sony released the playstation in Japan in 1994 and in America in 1995. Playstation became an instant success in japan and America and by 2005 it had become the first console ever to ship 100 million units this was thanks tp popular games like metal gear solid and final fantasy. As of today playstation has revealed 5 consoles and all of them have been successful worldwide with the latest one being the playstation 5 which was released last November.
Corporate social responsibility.
Sony and playstations strategic philanthropic and corporate social responsibility is alligned to reflect their diverse interests in several different areas such as education, sustainability and disaster relief. Sony has been consistently praised as one of the worlds most ethical companies and in 2020 it was ranked as number 1 on the wall street journal for the most sustainably managed companies in the world. This recognition goes to show how sony's csr initiatives are reflected in their ethical and responsible business practices.
Sony code of ethics.
Sony established its code of ethics in alignment with its core values of fairness, integrity,honesty and respect. Sony has proactively engaged with its stakeholders, employees and customers to ensure that sonys values and its position as an ethical company is shown through its business practices. Sonys ceo kenichiro yoshida had to say the following about about their code of ethics. " At its core sony is commited to ethical and responsible business practices. Operating with integrity and sincerity is central to sony's identity."
Differences of ethical approaches between the two companies
1. the first difference between sony and nintendos ethical practices are employee treatment.while sony working conditions and treatment of employees is among the best in the world the same cant be said for nintendo. Nintendo has been under continuous scrutiny for overworking their employees an example of this is working new interns to mental exhaustion.
2. sony is a much larger company than nintendo and their console the playstation far outsells nintendo. Playstation is more committed to exclusive games which are only available on playstation while nintendo seeks to make videogames more universal and make their videogames like Zelda available on multiple platforms.
Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch is the newest and lasted Nintendo video game console Released by Nintendo worldwide in most regions on March 3 2017. Due to the poor sales and decrease of value and decline since 2010 they created this switch hoping for it to compete with their biggest rivals but has still failed due to lack of consumer interests and slowly Playstation and Xbox are eating all of their shares
Corporate Social Responsibility. Nintendo explained that putting a smile on everyone's face was their social responsibility but
Nintendo felt that their company's ability to communicate was lacking. So they explained since 80% of Nintendo's net sales come from overseas, they should make goals specific to the CSR on a global scale.
Nintendo code of ethics. Code of Conduct applies to all of its employees, officers, and directors. As set forth in its Code of Conduct, Nintendo expects those working for and representing the company to maintain a high standard of conduct, to treat others with respect, and to conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner. Nintendo emphasizes courtesy, dignity, respect, and safety as corporate values, and seeks to create an atmosphere of mutual respect for all Nintendo employees, temporary workers, contractors, vendors, customers, and visitors.
Similarities of ethical approaches between the two companies
1. The first similar tie between Sony and Nintendo is their code of ethics. They both respect their consumers in a positive way and put them above all because without consumers buying your product your company will lose shares and value
