Conditional Sentences

Conditional sentences are types of sentences that need a condition or a  reason to happen. There are two parts in a conditional sentence:            IF                           MAIN                                                reason/condition          resultReason can be:1) always true –ZERO CONDITIONAL2)real and possible to happen-FIRST CONDITIONAL3) unreal and unlikely to happen-SECOND CONDITIONAL

Zero Conditional

Zero Conditional is used to talk about things which are always true-scientific facts, general truths etc…. It is formed:                IF                     MAINSimple Present         Simple Present

  If you heat water to 100 C, it boils.

r

If you heat ice, it turns to water.

First Conditional is used to talk about things which are real and possible to happen-MAY HAPPEN-in the present or in the future.It is formed:          IF                       MAIN  Simple Present       Will + infinitive

  If you break a mirror, you will have seven years of bad luck.

If it’s sunny, we will go for a walk.

Second Conditional is used to talk about things which are unreal-NOT TRUE OR NOT POSSIBLE-THINGS WHICH WON’T OR DON’T HAPPEN-in the present or in the future.It is formed:       IF                          MAIN Simple Past              Would + infinitive

If dogs had wings, they would fly.

r

If I had lots of money, I would buy a maybach.
