Descriptive Paragraphs

Describe something or highlight something.

Informative Paragraphs

Provide the reader with information on a particular subject .

Sangay volcano, located in the province of Morona Santiago, erupted. The eruption occurred in the early morning of February 8, 2022. The ash was felt in the provinces of Chimborazo, Bolivar and Los Rios. The volcano has decreased its seismic energy since 08h00 a.m. of that day, and it has left no traces of major damage.

Narrative Paragraphs

Tell a story and they can be written in first or third person and can be fictional and nonfictional, and they can be written in first or third person and can be fictional and nonfictional.

Compare & Contrast Paragraphs

Show the similarities and differences between two things.

Bananas and plantains have similarities, but they also have differences. They both have the same shape but the banana is larger and thicker while the plantain is smaller and thinner. Bananas can be eaten raw while plantains need to be prepared to be eaten. Both belong to the musaceae family.

Critical Paragragraphs

Evaluate a specific subject or event, and the simple format is a factual sentence followed by an opinion.

Yuzuru Hanyu finished her promising first participation in figure skating at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. Although he missed the quadruple jump, his performance was one of the highlights. Sadly, the pressure he felt was evident that cost him a little in the score. He placed 8th out of 30.

Persuasive Paragraphs

Persuade to the reader to do something.

Children should play without technology. First of all, when children play in a technology-free environment, they learn to socialize, think, solve problems, mature and most importantly, have fun. Skills that are important throughout their lives. If children avoid using electronic devices while playing, they will not develop a codependency to them. This will help them to have a fulfilling childhood.

Argumentative Paragraphs

Presents a logical argument to the reader these are often linked to persuasive arguments.

Purchasing non-perishable food items can be very expensive. Canned food donations made by students will be given to those affected by the deluge that occurred last week to help them recover from the disaster. This will have a great impact on other students, people, and government organizations to be encouraged to donate as well. So please support us by donating non-perishable food items. We will be really grateful.

Probelm/Solution Paragraphs

Highlight a problem and its solution.

Last month, we bought a doghouse. Unfortunately, our dog could not use it. The kennel was too small and didn't quite fit. The first step to solve this problem was to remove the roof to increase the height of the boards and make it taller. But that didn't work. Next, we decided to take the house apart to increase the boards on each side of the walls. When we finished adding more boards on each side we had to enlarge the roof as well. This ended up solving the problem.

Cause and Efect Paragraphs

Focus on explaining the actions and the results of these actions.

I speak English in an understandable way and people think I can speak fluently. But this is not true. In fact, in the previous semester of college I had a hard time establishing a conversation without mixing up grammatical tenses when speaking. Four months ago I decided to change the way I practice speaking. First of all, I decided to dedicate one hour a day to practice. I also decided not to get frustrated in the attempt. Finally, I decided to look for native English speakers who wanted to practice with me. After making these changes, I became more confident in speaking English.

Process Paragraphs

Set of steps that explain how something happens or how to make somteing.

Here are the steps for washing clothes by hand. First, put all the colored clothes in one container with detergent and the white clothes in another. Second, start soaping all the clothes separately. Third, scrub the clothes with a clothes brush on all parts of the garment. Finally, remove the soap with plenty of water and hang the clothes on the clothesline. You can see how easy it is!
