RELATIVE CLAUSES

Subordinated clauses that introduce additional information about a noun.

I bought a camera which doesn’t work properly.

I’ll never forget the day when the earthquake happened.

Give us essential information – information that tells us who or what we are talking about.

No commas

We can use THAT

instead of WHO/WHICH

Relative pronouns can be omitted

we can omit WHO/WHICH/THAT when they are followed by SUBJECT+VERB

Is attached to an antecedent by a relative pronoun such as WHO, WHICH, THAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHOSE.

WHO: to refer to people.

WHICH: to refer to things and animals.

WHOSE: to show possession. It can refer to people, things, and animals.
