According to the Canadian Government (n.d.), Canada has committed to completely phase out its coal-fired power plants by 2030.

The Ontario government has had critics of its transition away from natural gas according to McIntosh (2020), reporter for the National Observer. A coalition of 29 groups wrote the government should fund low-cost renewable resources and make a more aggressive transition to hyroelectricity.

From the Canadian Government:"GHG emissions from oil and gas production have gone up 23% between 2000 and 2018, largely from increased oil sands production, particularly in-situ extraction (para. 2)."

According to the CAPP, Ontario can refine up to 20% of Canada's oil barrels and the oil sand sector nearly spent two billion dollars providing goods and services in Ontario in 2016 to 2017
