Cells

Plant Cell

Nucleus

Controls the activities of the cell

Contains the cell's chemical instructions which are stored in the DNA

Cytoplasm

Cell Membrane

Also called as plasma membrane

A thin barrier that seprates a cell from its surroundings

A partially permeable membrane. Being partially permeable, it only allows certain materials to pass through it, but not thers

Controls the movement of metarials in and out of the cell

Vacuole

Large and forms the biggest part of the plant cell

Filled with a watery fluid called cell sap

So large that it usually reduces the cytoplasm to a thin lining

Cell Sap contains dissolved substances such as sugar

If the cell sap loses water, the plant will wit

Cell Sap also keeps the cell firm and helps the plant to stand up right

Cell Wall

Light and strong, and it gives the cell its regular shape

Freely permiable. Does not act as a barrier to anything which may enter the cell

Chloroplast

Tiny disc-shaped sacs containing a bright green pigment called chlorophyll

Absorbs light from the sun to provide energy for photosynthesis

-The basic building block of life.

Animal Cell

Nucleus

Cytoplasm

A jelly-like substance inside a cell that contains many tiny structures.

Almost fills a cell

Often circulates food and oxygen within the cell

Many activities of the cell takes place in the cytoplasm

Cell Membrane

Vacuole

Tiny spaces containing air, liquid or food particles found within the cytoplasm

Small and numerous
