Family and early life

F.B.T carter was the son of peter carter and Sydney Livingston. He attended a private school in st. Johns, later studied law in Newfoundland or England, in 1840 and 1841, elected solicitor to the legislative assembly he held the position until 1852 when he spent establishing his law practice.
He was married to Eliza Bayly in 1846 and had 11 children!
