
It is always to the employer’s role to provide employees with health and safety practices, no matter the circumstances. The ministry of labour is where employees go to address workplace incidents. A major issue regarding health and safety within the workplace may be, lack of WHMIS training.
Employees have the right to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve; they also have the right to be paid the minimum wage or higher depending on agreements upon hiring. An employee is also entitled to fair treatment within the workplace. Safety measures including: resources and equipment must be provided to the employee, this is so they can do the job safely and to the best of their abilities . An example of an employees rights violation is harassment, discrimination or even something as minor as loss of hours or wages.
All employers are required by law to pay an employee the provincial minimum wage. Waged may vary depending on the job, for example; bartenders do make a lesser hourly wage than a contractor does. An employee expect to be a minimum wage when employed within the workplace. An issue regarding wages is an employee not receiving at least the minimum wage; being under paid.
The employment equity act promotes equal opportunities for all employees, this is required by law. Employers are obligated to staff fairly at all times. A particular situation where employment equity would be violated may occur during the hiring process, based on gender.
