Responsibility In The Story

To Themselves

An example of responsibility shown to themselves is shown by David from gutter child. David is fulfilling responsibility to himself as he is doing something to keep himself safe and is making friends and considering them family. It is keeping him safe as the friends that he has made are à lifeline for him; they can help him stay safe and can help him succeed, and he can do likewise. When David was talking with Elimina, Rowan and Violet at their secret meeting, he knew that they had gone through alot and he had also gone through that, and they all were ready to give up and stop their journey on, but David said otherwise. David is being responsible because he is seeing that he has made it up to where he is and he is pushing himself forward, keeping hope in himself and it mentally benefits him.

An example of responsibility in the story "Once Upon A Time" is when the father of the child had installed many means of security to protect his family from thieves who had emerged due to the riots and protests in the town. He installed things like a security fence and weaponized mechanisms onto the front gates of his house to prevent robberies. Yes this is all good, and it is responsible of him, but he ends up failing and instead of catching a robber, he injures his own son, therefore failing to be responsible towards his others, who are his family and the workers within.

Eric D Brown shows responsibility by not resisting to the police and calmly showing them that he is only à realtor showing à client the property, and that he is not à threat.
It is good he did this because racial profiling was involved in this situation. If he had acted otherwise, they would have probably made false accusations against him and put him in jail for nothing. He acted for his safety.

To others

“I send a letter to David telling him the true
story behind the Corridor Killings, knowing it will be read by
people across the Mainland and the Hill. I tell him about the
ten dollars and about those who died in the crossfire, and I tell him what really happened during the protests”

In this situation, Elimina, the main character of Gutter Child, is showing great responsibility to others because she is risking her own life to get the truth out to the mainlanders and the people at the hill; the people who are not informed of what actually happened. Of why mainland guards are committing homicide. If she does this, everyone will know that the mainland is committing cultural genocide and people will try their best to stop it. In the book, when the protests happened, even some mainlanders were protesting against the mainland guard’s actions. Elimina is the one who had gotten the negotiation between mainland and gutter to remove policies, and was on à mission to completely diminish the gutter system.

Responsibility in the story

To themselves

In the story "The Dinner Party", The hostess demonstrates responsibility to herself by not panicking when the snake crawls over her foot, but instead gets the snake some bait to lead it out of the dinner hall. This is demonstrating responsibility to herself because not only is she keeping herself safe, but she is also staying calm because if the snake is to attack her, it could affect her life forever, so she is staying safe mentally and physically, short term and long term.

Kevin Hart is à well known comedian and actor who has stood up to racism and shown responsibility. He has shown responsibility because in the movie he made, "True Story" he has shown and example of harsh discrimination and how one should act if confronted. This is à responsibility to others because he is teaching others to stay calm and continue your day even if someone is being racist. Ignoring racism when confronted with it is the best way to avoid tensions and stand up to it, showing that you are strong and are proud of your ethnicity, showing that racism will affect you, but will not aggravate you, and that you will protest but peacefully. In this case, racism had affected Hart as he mentioned, he felt very uncomfortable when the passenger on the plane had come up to him and used racial slurs persistently .He had even called off his security guard from confronting the man because he knew it would just cause more trouble, so he did what was right and stayed quiet and acted calm If he had not done that, à fight might have arised on the plane and this might have gone to the media, and people would eventually create à huge protest and even get violent to further complicate the matter. It would have affected millions of black people, shoved them into à state of uncertainty and feeling unsafe
