-It is harmful as it contains large amount
of toxic chemicals.
-This waste is illegally disposed directly
into the rivers or seas causing heavy
pollutants.
E.g. In some countries, sewage is treated
at the sewage treatment plant to remove
waste products from the water before it is released into the water bodies However,
some of the substances in the sewage
such as detergenta are non-biodegradable.
As a result. the substances remains in the
water that eventually causes water pollution.
Oil spills
. Oil is spill in the sea.
. It is very diffcult to clean up oil spill.
. They spread over large areas and not easily
broken down.
Causes of oil spill
.Accidents of large oil tankers at sea.
-Hull of oil tankers torn by sharp rocks.
-Collision with another ship.

.Whrn the sea bird come into contact
with polluted water, the oil sticks to
their feathers.
.This removes the air trapped by the
feathers which functions as a layer of
insulation fr the animals. Causes many
of them to freeze to death.

.The oil clog the birds' feathers and prevents
them from fling or floating on the water.
.This causes many birds to drown.
Negative impact on human health
. Poisons in industrail waste can accumulate in
the bodies of fishes and shellfishes.
. These poisons may be passed on to human
when human consume the contaminated
animals.
. People might suffer from cholera and tyhoid
when they drink water that is contaminated.
Water pollution occurs when
. Pollutants are discharge directly
into water bodies such as rivers, lakes
and seas.
. Pollutants on land are blown by wing or
washed by rain into water bodies.

.Detergents in laundry water gets into rivers, the
chemicals will encourage the growth of algae on
the river surface.
. This will prevent sunlight from reaching the
plants beneath, causing them to die as
photosynthesis could not occur.
. Animals that depend on these plants for food
will also be affected.
