Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh was the king of Uruk. He was half man and half god. He was seen to be selfish and an arrogant king who didn't treat his people very well.

Gilgamesh is the antagonist of the story. Every decision he makes is for himself and for the betterment of no one but himself. He forces himself upon his own women. Makes decisions that lead to the death of his best friend just to get a little satisfaction.

Gilgamesh is a dynamic character. From the beginning Gilgamesh shows that he is selfish and doesn't care for the well being of anyone but himself. After becoming friends with Enkidu and him dying Gilgamesh shows remorse and grief for someone other than himself.
Conflict
Gilgamesh has an internal struggle. He wants to show that nothing is better than himself and that is the only way he will be satisfied. In the end he is afraid death and struggles to find a way to live forever.
Odysseus
Odysseus was a great Greek general. He was viewed by some as a God and very respected for his bravery and lack of fear of the Gods.

Odysseus is the protagonist in the Odyssey. The story is centralized around his journey with his men. Odysseus shows his heroism by being loyal to his men and making sure their well being is the first priority and not his own.

Odysseus is a static character. His goal never change through the whole story. Every single time he and his men are in danger he constantly makes sure they are safe first over himself. he is the same loyal and brave man from the beginning to the end.
Conflict
Odysseus through the entire Odyssey has external conflict with the obstacles the gods put forth for him. And his constant conflict of trying to get back to his family.
