This story's Theme or central subject is that not everyone is who they seem to be. For example, in the narrative, Miss Strangeworth is thought of as someone, but it turns out that she is actually the opposite of what everyone assumed—a kind old lady.

From my perspective/point of view, she had it coming to her; yes, she is elderly, but it does not justify what she did. I do not believe it was just to destroy the only thing that brought her happiness, but it will serve as a lesson for her to never send letters of that nature again.
