- Components are located inside of the tower
- Input devices are typically installed separately to the desktop
Advantages
-Usually have larger and more powerful components
-Desktops can be built for a certain purpose i.e. workstation, gaming pc, editing machine or even a small server
-No proprietary operating system required, any open os can be installed
Disadvantages
- Desktops can be very large
- Uses a lot of electricity
- Can be very expensive to build depending on chosen components
- Difficult to troubleshoot hardware issues
