Definition
A dangling modifier is a word, phrase, or clause that describes something that has been left out of the sentence.
Disadvantage
If you put a modifier in a place it doesn't belong, you risk confusion, awkwardness, and even unintentional humor.
How to fix
The dangling modifier must be changed by adding needed information or rearranging the structure of one of the phrases or clauses. Beginning a sentence with an introductory phrase can often lead to a dangling modifier error.
Examples
1. Riding in the sports car, the world whizzed by rapidly.
2. Walking home at night, the trees looked like spooky aliens.
