DEFINITION

Adverbs in English are words within a sentence that modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. Their job is to provide more information about the item they rate..

USE

The most common ending is to add -ly to an adjective to make it an adverb. Perfect/ Perfectly Bad /Badly

In adjectives that end in -y, this consonant is changed to -iy and the ending -ly is added. Speedy / Speedily

Adjectives with ending -ic are added an a (-ica) plus the suffix -lly. Academic/Academically Specific/Specifically

Adjectives ending in -lese are replaced by -ly. Honorable/Honorably Incredible/Incredibly

KINDS OF ADVERBS

Frequency adverbs: Their use is mainly to highlight the degree of periodicity with which certain actions are carried out. example: There is a noise everyday / He cooks at home regularly

Adverbs of time: They are those that set the tone for us when situations occur. Example; I’ll wake up early tomorrow / Currently, I’ve been swimming

Adverbs of quantity: They are all those that quantitatively specify a meaning; are used to express quantity of something whether solid or non-physical:Example: You can see enough space in this house

Adverbs of manner: the main objective is to clearly show how a certain action or event is carried out. Generally, they are those that have an addition of "ly" at the end of the adjective. Example: She constantly drinks water

Adverbs of place: These indicate the specific or nearby site where the action is taking place. In addition, what they are looking for is to give details of the peripheral area where the person(s) are located. Example: The bank is far from here / The keys are above the fridge
