Metaethics

Example: Metaphysical issues

exists independently of humans.

and conduct.

Normative Ethics

Example: The Golden Rule. We should
do to others what we would want
others to do to us.

Example: Stresses the importance of
developing good habits of character
(following precisely defined rules of
conduct, such as "don't kill," or
"don't steal.")

Applied Ethics

Example: Environmental Ethics.
Issues involving littering, global
warming, protection of wildlife.

Example: Medical Ethics.
Issues involving abortion,
or euthanasia.
