Cable television

Signals are received by satellite , microwave , and broadcast
antennas and combined at the head end. From the head end , the signal is sent through a system of wires that have amplifiers to boost the signal strength and continue the signal to houses connected to cable.

Satellite delivery

Changed the use and purpose of cable tv. TV signals
delivered by satellite can reach many cable company receivers
throughout the country at once.

The 3 different Satellites
1. Geosynchronous
2. middle earth
3. Low orbit

Digital television

The FCC ordered all television stations to upgrade
to digital broadcasting by 2006

Digital Television transmits tv programs in high definition
television., which is a wide screen, high resolution format. It also uses standard definition similar to analog television picture, but with better color reproduction and less interference.

Internet television

Internet Tv AKA Streaming.
Streaming services do not require a cable or satellite subscriptions. Instead of paying XX amount on cable or satellite services , audiences will be moving to a la carte subscription model. Paying only $10 a month for Netflix, Hulu, or amazon prime.

Provides mobility for customers. Able to stream where ever and when ever with a internet conncection

New TV sets

Television sets are always changing!

From the 3D sets that are replaced with curved instead of flat screens.

Its expected that HD will give away to Ultra High Def sets.
UHD is capable of reproducing tv picture with 3840 x 2160 pixels. Creating clear and more relastic picture.

4k sets are in the new mainstream

Early innovations

Mechanical Scanning employed a spinning disc system
that used one disc to record and send the visual image and another disc for viewing it. It was developed by Paul Nipkow in 1884.

Electronic Scanning system produced a better picture
without using the spinning disks of mechanical television . This was developed by Vladimir K. Zworykin in 1923.

The Big Freeze (1948-1952)

Post World II audience demanded television
sets and programming was the catalyst for the increased number of new applications for television licenses especially in the larger markets, where available channels were scares because there were only 12 channels located in the VHF brand television.

In September 1948, The FCC put a 6-month freeze on the application process to reconsider the licensing process and other issues associated with industry. It 3.5 years and in April 15, 1952 officially ending the freeze.

Domination of the networks

In the early days of radio and the pioneering of television
, the networks exerted quite a bit of control over the affiliates.
The reason was: the networks provided high quality entertainment and big name stars from Hollywood and New york .

When the networks dominated radio programming
they also controlled tv programming from its inception.
