Globalization - Mind Map

Globalization

Garment Industry

For a social aspect, the garment industry takes poorer countries and makes them responsible for creating and labouring away at making the clothing for very poor wages. The workers are often too young to be working, treated unfairly or abused, and are often in poverty. This is very unethical and cruel.

The garment industry is awful for the environment, as microplastics are released from these clothing pieces being cheap unwanted and discarded into the garbage. In landfills, the clothing is left to slowly decompose, but since the materials are mostly never natural, tiny bits of microplastics are released into our environment, and over time can harm animals and humans. Not to mention, the emissions from all of the production of these clothes is excessive.

Globalization mostly benefits consumers in dominant western countries, especially when it comes to fast fashion and clothing. All fast fashion trends are eaten up by these countries, which come from massive retailers who use low cost labour to keep up with high demands. Lots of money is made from this aspect of globalization, but it is not ethical almost all of the time.

Transportation

Transportation is one of the other main drives in globalization, as it is the only method used to transport goods to other countries. It is very important and goes directly hand in hand with globalization.

Since so much more transport is needed now, and globalization grows and grows, emissions to the environment around us are at a very high level. Boats, planes, and trucks all contribute very harmful emissions and the increase of them as a whole makes the emissions at an all time high. This puts our environment even more at risk.

Ubrbanization

Many metropolitan areas, global cities, gateways etc. have been established to keep up with the need for more space to make globalization able to run smoothly. They work hand in hand.

New transportation, advancements in production and the need for more space to urbanize can increase the emissions to higher levels. All of the destruction of the environment to create space does harm to our local ecosystems.

Very fast economic changes come from urbanization, as well as quick advancements. People in an existing city can face dislocation, racism, higher crime rates, and other injustices. Social exclusions occur, and equality may begin to increase as a city changes rapidly.

Technology

Technology has evolved to become one of the main drives in globalization. It opens up new innovations, which creates more opportunities for businesses to make money. This is over all what strengthens globalization and drives it.

Information technology has improved communication, making is easier for buyers to communicate and buy, and for sellers to advertise and sell. With technology the geographical barriers of meeting in person and needing meeting times and places is no longer needed. This is another aspect that globalization relates to.

Technological advancements not only relating to globalization improve the effort it takes to complete tasks traditionally. This could possibly skew our worlds different cultures, but it can improve daily life of humans. It is also possible to transfer technology to other less developed countries.
