What are possible causes for the decline of the populaion of
Kashmiri Red stag?
1) The cultivation and hunting were believed to be reason for the population decline for this magnificent deer species. 2) The area where they lived seemed to be overgrazed, with erosion becoming apparent due to grazing by thousands of cattle of Gujjars. Raising of domestic livestock such as sheep and goat in the Kashmir stag habitat has led to its fragmentation. 3) Cross border terrorism, poaching by humans is another reason for their distinct. 4) Ratio of male and female deer is also one of the concerns.
What will be the consequences
if this animal becomes extinct?
Kashmir will lose its state animal. It will affect the habitat cycle i.e. Other animals who depend on them for their survival. The only Asiatic survivor or sub-species of the European red deer will get extinct.
