Emotional Intelligence

Useless concepts that are more popular than they deserve to be

Terminology

Abbr.

EI

Definition

Problems

The term "intelligence" implicates that it needs "smartness" in order to handle one's emotions (or those of others).

This assumption closely links to the "Rationalization" Myth

Musings

Can we all just stop pretending that with "Emotional Intelligence" we have found some kind of Holy Grail?

The concept is so incredibly flawed, superficial, and frankly quite useless.

EI is an oxymoron. Emotions are inherently separated from cognition.

Also, "control" of emotions is an illusion. You can regulate an emotional reaction to some degree. A suppression of the emotion itself will result in neurosis or worse.
