Odysseus was the son of Laertes and
Antikleia and the king of Ithaca.
“he seems very powerfully built; his thighs, calves,
hands, and neck are of Prodigious Strength...” (91)
Brave- After his fight with the Cyclopes he says, “If anyone
asks who it was that put your eye out and spoiled your
beauty tell them it was the Valiant warrior Odysseus.
Humble- Odysseus never brags about being a her. He never
truly accepted the fact that he was powerful.
Odysseus is a protagonist
Odysseus is a dynamic character:
In the beginning Odysseus appears fearful about the future
but as time passes on his journey, he transforms into the
brave hero he is known as.
Poseidon causes so much suffering to Odysseus that be
becomes weakened and tired. He still keeps going on his
Quest home and eventually regains his strength.
Odysseus’ conflict is driven by external forces.
Oedipus is a tragic hero who falls from grace. He is the king of Thebes and the husband of Jocasta.
Swift action- When the citizens beg him to do something about the plague, he’s one step ahead and has already sent for help.
Proud- After he saves Thebes from the curse and becomes king he exclaims, “Here I am myself…you all know me. The world knows my fame.”
Oedipus is the Protagonist, he saves Thebes from the curse.
Oedipus is a dynamic character:He is changing throughout the story especially when he learns he might be responsible for Laius’ death.
The conflict in Oedipus is both internal and external.
