parts of a computer
CORE
mother board
a printed circuit board
containing the principal
components of a computer
or other device, with
connectors into which other
circuit boards can be slotted.
CPU (pronounced as separate letters)
is the abbreviation for central processing unit.
Sometimes referred to simply as the
central processor, but more commonly
called processor, the CPU is the brains
of the computer where most calculations take place.
RAM (pronounced ram) is an acronym for random
access memory, a type of computer memory
that can be accessed randomly; that is, any
byte of memory can be accessed without touching the preceding bytes. RAM is found in servers, PCs, tablets, smartphones and other devices, such as printers.
A program that controls a device. Every device,
whether it be a printer, disk drive, or keyboard,
must have a driver program. Many drivers, such as the keyboard
driver, come with the operating system. For other devices, you may need to load a new driver when you connect the device to your computer.
The phrase cooling in computing generally refers
to the dissipation of large amounts of heat, which
is created while a computer system is running.
Heat is generated inside the computer tower by
various hardware such as CPU, video card or even
the hard drive.
PORTS, PEREPHERIALS, EXPANSIONs
a printed circuit board that controls the output to a display screen.
A Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a common
interface that enables communication between
devices and a host controller such as a personal
computer (PC). It connects peripheral devices such
as digital cameras, mice, keyboards, printers, scanners, media devices, external hard drives and flash drives.
Definition of: Ethernet. Ethernet. The most widely
used local area network (LAN) technology.
Defined as the 802.3 standard by the IEEE,
the Ethernet access method connects computers
in a company or home network to each other and
to the Internet. It is also used to connect a single
computer to a modem for Internet
A video card (also called a display card, graphics card, display adapter or graphics adapter) is an expansion card which generates a feed of output images to a display (such as a computer monitor).
This includes CDs as well as any sound files
stored on a computer. In contrast, the telephone
system (but not ISDN) is based on an analog
representation of sound. In sound recording and
reproduction systems, digital audio refers to a digital
representation of the audio waveform for processing, storage or transmission.
a panel of keys that operate a computer or typewriter.
an instrument for converting sound waves into
electrical energy variations, which may then be
amplified, transmitted, or recorded.
a video camera that inputs to a computer connected to the Internet, so that its images can be viewed by Internet users.
a pair of earphones typically joined by a band placed over the head, for listening to audio signals such as music or speech.
an instrument or device used for observing, checking, or keeping a continuous record of a process or quantity.
a person whose job or business is commercial printing.
OPERATING SYSTEM
Process Management refers to aligning processes with an organization's strategic goals, designing and implementing process architectures, establishing process measurement systems that align with organizational goals, and educating and organizing managers so that they will manage processes effectively.
Memory management is the process of controlling
and coordinating computer memory, assigning
portions called blocks to various running programs
to optimize overall system performance. Memory management resides in hardware, in the OS (operating system), and in programs and applications.
Mobile device management (MDM) is an industry
term for the administration of mobile devices,
such as smartphones, tablet computers, laptops
and desktop computers. MDM is usually implemented
with the use of a third party product that has management features for particular vendors of mobile devices.
Storage management usually refers to the
management of Computer data storage,
which includes memory management. It can
also refer to specific methods or products for
storage management, such as the following. ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager. Automatic Storage
Management. Hierarchical storage management.
