Types Of Soils

Alluvial Soil

:

Composition/Texture- sand, silt clay
with potash, phosphoric acid and lime

Region- eastern coastal plains and deltas of mahanadi, godavari etc.

Crops- rice paddy, sugarcane, wheat, cereal, pulse crops

Additional- divided into new alluvium(khadar) and old(bhangar)

Red and Yellow Soils

Composition/Texture- Form on igneous rocks
red- due to diffusion of iron
yellow- in hydrated form

Region:- Odisha, Chhatisgarh,southern Deccan plateau

Crops- Ragi, maize, potato, oilseeds etc

Forest Soil

Composition/Texture- from loamy
and silty to coarse

Region- Jammu and Kashmir and
other mountainous regions

Crops- tea, spices, barley, tropical fruits etc

Laterite Soil

:

Composition/Texture- highly acidic and
deficient in plant nutrients

Region- Maharashtra, Bengal

Crops- tea, coffee, cashew nuts etc

Arid Soil

:

Composition/Texture- sandy and saline

Region:- Rajasthan, parts
of Gujarat

Crops- maize, dates, cactus

Black Soil

Composition/Texture- Clayey with
plant nutrients like calcium carbonate, magnesium, potash

Region- Deccan Trap, Malwa, MP, Saurashtra

Crops:- Cotton, oilseeds etc
