This type of variation has a limited number of values. EG: if a person can roll their tongue or not. It only has 2 vvalues, and someone cannot 'half roll' their tongue

continuous

This kind of variation has a range of values available. For example, height is a continuous variation because everyone is a different height. It is from this that we can calculate averages for certain types of people. EG: ages
