Elementary Mathematics
Week 2
Week 1
Intro to building different base, 5/10 frames and use them for adding and subsracting, convert from base ten to different bases and from other bases to base ten
- To build any numbers that we want in any base using blocks. the base tell us the number of units needed to create 1 long. We can use groupings based on the base to make cubes, flats, longs, units. the amount of cubes is less than base, the amount of units is less than base, the amount of longs is less than base, the amount of flats is less than base.
- How do I convert from base ten to different bases and from other bases to base ten? I should convert all cubes, flats, and longs into their individual units, then regroup all units based on a new base, or i can skip count by base and build cubes, flats, and longs when converting from base ten to different bases.
- 5/10 frames. using 5/10 frames helps students count and add fast and understand place value, is good for students who are to learn that one-to-one correspondence.
Ploya’s 4-Step Problem Solving Process
Ploya’s 4-Step Problem Solving Process:
step 1- Understand the Problem
step 2- Develop a Plan
step 3- Carry out the Plan
step 4- Look Back to See If Answer Makes Sense
we can use Guess/Check, Diagrams, List, and Algorithms to solve problems.
To start this class, we went over the syllabus, supplies, and learning materials.
