Anatomical Movement
Abduction and Adduction
Adduction- moving a limb toward the centre-line of the body.
Abduction-moving a limb away from the centre-line of the body.
Eversion and Inversion
Inversion-rotating the ankle so that the sole of the foot points towards the other.
Eversion-rotating the ankle so that the sole of the the foot points away from the other.
Flexion and Extension
Extension- increasing the angle of the joint.
Straightening the joint.
Flexion- decreasing the angle of the joint.
Bending the joint
Elevation and Depression
Depression- moving a body part in inferior direction.
Ex. Shoulders moving downward.
Elevation- moving a body part in superior direction.
Ex. Shoulders moving up.
