The semicolon

Used is to join together two sentences that are related

Call me tomorrow; you can give me an answer then.

The colon

Used before a list . Another use of this punctuation mark is after a heading.

Example: I want the following items: butter, sugar, and flour.

The comma

Used to separate items on a list

Used to add a phrase that does not contain any new subject

He walked all the way home, and he shut the door.

Used to pause before proceeding

The period

Used at the end of any sentence that is intended to make a statement

I visited my friend in the city. She lives with her mom.
