Electricity and Magnetism
Magnetic Fields
Connection: The microbots the villain took from Hiro have a north pole and south pole. They have a magnetic field to them and that how they stick together and can hold 1,000 pounds.
Evidence: when you cut a magnet in half it turns into two magnets both still having negative and positive electrons
Evidence: drawing of the magnetic field of the earth (Pages 55 and 56)
Circuits
Connection: When Tadashi, Hiro's brother explains Baymax to him he explains that Baymax’s has high pro spectral cameras, he is made out of final, and most importantly has fiber optic circuits.
Evidence: Electric Potential energy is per unit of charge that would be possessed by a charged object placed with in an electric field at a given location.
Evidence: One requirement of a circuit is they must be closed conducting paths that extends from the positive terminal to the negative terminal. (Pages 52, 54, and 56)
Static
Connection: Baymax snuck up on Hiro and scared him. Hiro then used the expression “you gave me a heart attack”. Baymax reacted and used his hands as a defibrillator. When Baymax rubs his hands together he is creating a static charge. This static charge can be used to shock Hiro and wake him up.
Evidence: electrons attract to protons and protons attract to electrons but opposites don't attract, they repel.
Evidence: clouds build up static charge by friction as water vapor rises which strips electrons off and makes the top positive and the bottom negative. ( Pages 50, 51, and 56)
Sound
How we hear
Connection: When Hiro says commands to Baymax to hear, Baymax hears through microphones. The viberation get sent and are turned into electrical waves for Baymax to hear.
Evidence: The higher the pitch the higher the frequency (page 28 in notebook)
Evidence: Higher the amplitude the louder the sound
Evidence: vibrate faster higher pitch vibrate slower lower pitch. (Pages 31and 32)
Wave equation
Connection:Hiro teaches Baymax to do the fist bump, when he does it he goes, "Bah la la la la". Each of the la's, Baymax goes a pitch higher which makes the frequency higher each time. Since the frequncy is going up the wavelengths go down.
Evidence: speed of the wave frequency goes up then wavelength goes down and when wavelength goes up frequency goes down
Evidence: Radios have low frequencies and longer wavelengths and that why the radiation doesn't hurt us as bad. (pages 32 and 28)
Is a mechanical wave-
Connection: Baymax talking device is a speaker, the diaphram in the speaker viberates. Once it viberates the waves travel through the speacker which sends the waves through the air for us to here.
Evidence: the speed of sound is 343 m/s
Evidence: A wave's frequency equals the frequency of the vibrating source making the wave. (Pages 30 and 33)
Pictures
Light
How we see
Connection: Baymax is able to see Through his eyes are hyperspectral cameras. BAymax also has a scanning system in him, The scanners allow him to read data about people And things going on around him. He uses x-ray Imaging through the scanner to analyze what he is seeing .
Evidence: 70% of all of the sensory receptors in your whole body are in your eyes
Evidence: Diagram of eye ( see in google doc) (Page 39)
Carries Information and energy
Connection: Baymax gets his information from his computer program chips Hiro and Tadashi made for him that has deep coding and 10,000 medical programs. When Hiro is examining Baymax for the first time he also notices that he runs on lithium batteries.
Evidence: more energy higher frequency and shorter wavelengths
Evidence: Man- made radio waves are generated when electrons are negatively charged ( Page 38)
Can be Emitted and Absorbed
Connection: Baymax's is white which means his body reflects all colors and obsorbs white.
Evidence: light is absorbed by an atom which is called emission.
Evidence: Red+Blue= Magenta, Red+Green= Yellow, and Green+Blue= Cyran ( Pages 40 and 36)
Is a Wave and Particle
Connection: When The villain tried attacking them and they ended up in the lake. When they came out of the lake, Hiro’s body temperature was still down and Baymax sent vibrations of electricity through his body to make him warm up.
Evidence: Light Waves can interfere, diffract and be polarized
Evidence: Light particles called photons eject electrons
Evidence: Can transport energy without a medium by electric vibrating charge (Page 36)
Forces and Motion
What are the causes and effects of friction?
Connection: When Baymax and Hiro are running away from the microbots. They go through a air vent and his body barely fits through the vent. His arms rub on the sides of the vent which causes fiction.
Connection: When Baymax was upstairs waiting for Hiro, he was petting the cat. While he was petting the cat, it caused friction between his hand and the cat.
Evidence: the more fiction the slower the object will go.
Evidence: The cause of friction is two rough surfaces rubbing together. (Pages 18 in notebook)
How does potential energy become kinetic energy?
Connection: When baymax fell out of the window getting away from the microbots as he fell, his potential energy turned into kinetic.
Connection: On Baymax’s first test run of flying, he almost hit something and Baymax shot straight in the the air. When he shot into the air they gained a lot of potential energy. Once they got pretty high in the air, Hiro told Baymax to stop. Once Baymax shut off, he started to fall. When he was falling all of the potential energy turned into kinetic energy.
Evidence: When an object falls the potential energy turns into kinetic energy.
Evidence: When the gravity changes is when the potential and kinetic change. (pages 18-19)
How is momentum conserved?
Connection: When the microbots were attacking Hiro and Baymax, it showed how force is portrayed. The microbots are able to give off large amounts of force because of their magnetic attraction to one another. There is a headband that is a neurotransmitter. The transmitter attracts the force within the microbots. If in the wrong hands this can be very harmful, as seen in the movie.
Connection: Newton’s First Law connects to the power of the microbots. The microbots are the villains power to harm the super hero. The microbots stay in motion until the headband (the outside force) is removed from Evil Robert’s head. When the headband is removed the microbots stop moving. The headband is the outside force that causes the microbots to be in motion.
Evidence: Force * Time = Mass change in speed
Evidence: As long as there are no other forces acting on the objects involved its conserved
Evidence: momentum stays the same in collisions. (Pages 15-16)
What is the relationship between mass, force, and acceleration?
Connection: Baymax is super light which means he doesn't have much mass. Sense he doesn't have much mass, he doesn't need or have much acceleration; the more acceleration the more force. In the energy.
Connection: Newton's first law: An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion, unless a force is acted upon it. Baymax was walking very slow and to make him go faster Hiro pulled his arm.
Evidence: Force= mass * acceleration
Evidence: The more acceleration you have the more force that is going to be applied ( Page 13 in notebook)
